Australia's largest international Festival of Blues & Roots Music takes over Byron Bay every Easter and is a highlight of the Australian music calendar. The Blues Fest features some of the world’s top blues and roots artists in a jam packed weekend of world class entertainment. The Bluesfest is a massive selection which every year creates the finest line up in the country.

The Big Swim charity swimming race from Wategos Beach to Main Beach attracts a broad range of swimmers from throughout Australia. . Covering a distance of 2 kilometres, this Classic Swim is open to all competitors aged 12 years and above. The Ocean Swim Classic is 2.2 km swim from Wategos Beach to Main Beach, Byron Bay.

Byron Bay Triathlon is an annual Olympic Distance event and attracts around 1,300 competitors from different countries. Traditionally it is held on the second weekend in May every year and signals the last race in the QLD/NSW triathlon calendar. Competitors enjoy a 1.5km ocean swim in the crystal clear, tranquil waters of Byron Bay; a 40km cycle past, rainforest, coastal bush and farmland; then they top it off with a run through streets, under the picturesque Byron Bay Lighthouse.

The Billy Cart Derby brings crowds of several thousands to Bangalow for a day packed with billycart racing, expert skateboard riding, parades, children’s rides and entertainment, a variety of foods to enjoy and is a great day full of community fun. The main street of Bangalow becomes a race track, filled with billy carts of all shapes and sizes and kids of all ages. This award winning community event is a great day out for the whole family.

Australia's largest 6 a side soccer tournament will be held on the long weekend of 7 + 8 June 2014 from 9am to 3pm at the Bangalow Sports and Recreation Grounds, NSW. This amazing competition is for men over 40 and women over 35. This is the first ever soccer festival involving loads of amazing food, drink and entertainment for players and supporters for the entire weekend.

Splendour in the Grass is an annual art and music festival that attracts music lovers to Byron Bay’s scenic parklands. The annual event accommodates 17,500 people who party for the weekend to a mix of rock, hip hop, electronic and alternative beats from both international and national artists, also featuring local arts and crafts, creative performances and cuisine.

The focus of the program is firmly on Australian writing, with recognition of our physical place in the world through the inclusion of Indonesian and Asian authors.

The Sample Food Festival is held at Bangalow road to showcase the ingenuity and diversity of local organic food growers, the best being awarded the prestigious Golden Fork Award. On festival day, highlights include - a Byron farmers’ market breakfast from 8am, celebrity guests, cooking demonstrations, cheese making class, live music, children’s entertainment and product launches. Entry is free.

The Byron Lighthouse Run is an annual community event proudly supported by local business. The Lighthouse race is a 6.7 k walk or a 10 k run to raise charity for a different cause each year. The Lighthouse Run attracts around 900 participants – some who come because they are fast and fit and others just for a bit of fun.

Boomerang is a new world indigenous festival for all Australians with visitors being treated to 3 full days of performances from music to workshops, fire gatherings, dance participations and conversations with some unexpected surprises. It features 4 stages, along with workshops, traditional healings, as well as introducing the First Nations Film Festival, panels and forums over three days which define the Indigenous experience in Australia.

The Byron Bay Surf Festival features everything from breath control and yoga workshops, creating your own wooden surfboard and art exhibitions this is a varied celebration of a culture that is an iconic symbol of Australian life. Every year thousands of Year 12 students from around Australia and New Zealand make plans for a holiday to celebrate their end of school years and the completion of their Leaving Certificate. This is the period where all Year 12 school leavers finally get to celebrate the end of their School years. The Schoolies week usually takes place between mid-November and mid-December when year 12 students Leaving Certificate exams are over.
