So what is "Schoolies Week"???

Schoolies Week is the period where Year 12 school leavers from all around Australia celebrate the end of their School years. This usually takes place between mid-November and mid-December when year 12 students Leaving Certificate exams are finally over .

Schoolies Week is often the first holiday these students go on without their families so this coming of age creates it's own special needs.

Byron Bay has always been a laid back destination for Schoolies and at this stage no spacific "Schooies" events have been planned!

Featuring Hot Rods, Street Machines and  Classic cars, also a Live DJ and Rock n Roll Dancing.

With Events such as Wheel Changing Competitions,  Show n Shine, Tappet Cover Racing and a Trade Display.

This is a great family day out with full catering at the grounds.

All cars judged by ASMF judges.

Entrants set up at 6.30 - 8.30am (NSW time)

Admission:  $5.00 per adult, $1.00 per child or $12.00 per family

Film buffs flock to Byron Bay in January for the Byron Bay Film Festival in January. It’s a week that expresses the diversity and individuality of contemporary filmmaking and showcases the work of local and national filmmakers. The venue is the Byron Community and Cultural Centre, the classy new performance space in the heart of Byron’s main street.

When it’s getting too cold to swim in southern waters, Byron’s ocean temperature is still delicious. The Byron Bay Winter Whales Ocean Swim Classic brings together more than 1000 swimmers on a 2.2km course from Wategos Beach, around The Pass and across to Main Beach in front of the surf club. You’ll get a completely different view of the coastline from the water, plus a fish-eye view of the ocean floor and reefs, with fish, turtles and rays along the way.

Byron’s Olympic-distance triathlon eases the pain of competing with the beauty of its course. The 1500 metre ocean swim starts from the Byron Bay Surf Club and goes out into Byron’s clear blue waters. After the swim, competitors leap on to their bikes for a 40km cycle and complete the course with a 10km road run. It attracts competitors and audiences from around Australia and the May weather is perfect – sunny but not too hot.

The Bangalow Music Festival showcases a vibrant cross section of musical styles and this world class event is in the amazing little town of Bangalow just ten minutes from Byron Bay. This annual event is held in the historical A & I Hall in this beautiful heritage town. The program is a rich collaboration of professional chamber ensembles, emerging young artists, Australian composers and world-class soloists. These fine musicians have been part of a magical warm weekend and over the years has included artists like Ilya Knovalov (Concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic), Tankstream Quartet, the Australian String Quartet, Tel-Aviv Trio, Marshall Maguire, Slava Grigoryan, and of course members of the Southern Cross Soloists. Legendary Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe who attended the Festival in 2004, describing it as, “the most exciting festival, outside a capital city, that I have ever attended”. The award-winning Bangalow Music Festival has been the most spectacular development of the Southern Cross Soloists in recent years.
