The 4 km long Cape Byron Walking Track runs along the rear of the beach.

Things to Do & See in Wategos Beach

Wategos beach is quite learner friendly for novice surfers. Waves break gradually, spilling over the wide sand bar and patchy reef, producing a friendlier surf suitable for long boards and learners. The generally mellow vibe and the views back across the bay make it a special spot, but don’t bother coming if you’re looking for fast and challenging waves.

Surfing Lessons at Wategos Beach

If you’re a novice surfer, Wategos Beach is a great spot to have your first lessons. This north-facing beach has epic waves to begin riding on the waters. What’s more? If you’re lucky, you’ll have dolphins surfing alongside.

A Sunrise Walk Along Cape Byron Walking Track

The best way to begin your day at Wategos Beach is to have an early morning walk along the Cape Byron Walking Track. Your legs maybe fine at the end of it, but you’ll realise that your arm is soar from pointing out to the spectacular sights of this natural treasure. After the physical exertion, you can treat yourself to a totally sinful breakfast at The Pass Cafe.

Places to Eat & Drink in Wategos Beach

Fish and chips are a must-try when visiting Byron Bay. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the Bay Lane that offer gourmet fish and chips. You’re lucky if you manage to get an outside table at Fresh in Jonson Street and simply watch the world go by over a fresh fruit smoothie.

Wategoes has two extemes for eating choices...Raes at Wategos is an amazing spot with wonderful seafood and a great wine list. There is also a mobile cafe offering great coffee and snacks in the mornings right next to the beach.
