Lennox Head is situated at the northern end of Ballina Shire, en-route Byron Bay. A small coastal town with a population of about 3,900 located about half way between Byron and Ballina.

Over recent years it has developed from a quiet coastal village into a sophisticated town offering a wide selection of accommodation types, restaurants, cafes and shops. The beach is situated parallel to the main street, with direct access at several points, and that classic Aussie icon, the surf club, stands sentinel on the beach at the northern end of town. Lennox is famous for its right hand point break, and hosts several surfing competitions through the year. Most yers these include the All Girl Surf Showdown in June, the Gromfest (juniors) in July and the biennial Lennox Masters Surf Classic.

Getting to Lennox Head & Around

Lennox Head is 776 km north of Sydney, 211 km south of Brisbane, 120 km south of Coolangatta, and 11 km north of Ballina.

From Byron Bay town centre, driving south through Jonson Street (main street) and then through Bangalow Road, this road will lead you directly to Lennox head (turn off on left approximately 19 km from Byron Bay).

Things to Do & See in Lennox Head

The beach at Lennox north of the Surf Life Saving Club is dog-friendly, and it's here that you can also take horse rides on the beach! Lake Ainsworth is a must-see attraction, a great picnic spot to hang out with friends and family. Lennox is a popular spot with great swimming, fishing, snorkelling (fantastic at the Brim Hole), sailing and just about everything else you can do in a coastal town. But best of all, tourist love to relax and enjoy the laid back lifestyle.

Apart form the beach, the fresh water tea tree lake, Lake Ainsworth, offers excellent picnic areas. Although the water is reputed to have therapeutic qualities, in some years it is un-swimmable due to algae. It nevertheless offers a picturesque picnic and recreation area.

Lennox Head has a range of café’s, fine dining restaurants, sea food joints and places for local fast food. Quattro is a faulous Italian Restaurant with ocean views; Balckboard Cafe is a more laid back cafe along the beach road to lake Ainsworth. There are Tahi , Mexican and pub restaurants too. Lennox head provides many fine eating choices and a wonderful relaxed seaside atmosphere.
